How does a telehealth consultation work?
After booking online, you'll receive a confirmation email with a secure link to join your video consultation. At your appointment time, simply click the link to connect with your doctor. You can also choose a phone consultation if preferred. The doctor will assess your condition, discuss treatment options, and send any prescriptions, referrals, or medical certificates directly to you.
Can I get a prescription without visiting a doctor in person?
Yes! Australian law allows doctors to prescribe most medications via telehealth, including e-prescriptions sent directly to your phone or pharmacy. Some controlled substances may have additional requirements, but our doctors will guide you through the process. Medical cannabis can also be prescribed via telehealth under TGA Special Access Scheme (SAS-B) or through Authorised Prescriber pathways.
Is medical cannabis legal in Australia?
Yes, medical cannabis is legal in Australia when prescribed by an authorised doctor. It must be approved through the TGA's Special Access Scheme (SAS-B) or prescribed by an Authorised Prescriber (AP). Our doctors at TeleHealth are TGA-authorised and handle all regulatory approvals on your behalf. Products are dispensed through licensed Australian pharmacies.
What conditions qualify for medical cannabis?
Medical cannabis may be prescribed for chronic pain, neuropathic pain, multiple sclerosis spasticity, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, epilepsy (treatment-resistant), palliative care symptoms, anxiety, PTSD, and sleep disorders — typically when conventional treatments have been unsuccessful or caused intolerable side effects. Our doctors will assess your individual case during consultation.
Do I need a referral to use TeleHealth?
No referral is needed for a standard GP consultation. You can book directly online. However, if you're seeking medical cannabis treatment, we recommend having your medical history or a letter from your regular GP to help our doctors make an informed assessment. For specialist referrals, your TeleHealth GP will handle the referral process.
Can I use Medicare for my consultation?
Medicare rebates are available for eligible telehealth consultations for patients with a valid Medicare card. Bulk billing may be available for concession card holders, pensioners, and children under 16. Medical cannabis consultations are typically private as they fall outside standard Medicare item numbers. Our booking team can confirm your eligibility when you make an appointment.
